Benefits of Body Liposuction (Liposculpture)
Liposuction is a method that can be used to eliminate fat deposits in the face and neck area as well as the body. Dr. Zweig often utilizes facial liposuction along the jaw line as well as under the chin and neck. In younger patients liposuction alone can produce dramatic results.
Body liposuction is most successful when used to reduce areas that do not respond to diet and exercise. The most frequent target areas are hips, inner and outer thighs, abdomen, waist “love handles,” and back.
Both men and women of all ages are candidates for liposculpture.
How Body Liposuction (Liposculpture) is done
A few small punctures are placed in hidden areas near where the fat is to be removed. Dr Zweig uses the tumescent technique in which fluid is inserted containing an anesthetic and a tiny canula (a hollow tube) is used. This much smaller tube, along with Dr Zweig’s meticulous attention vacuuming the fat away, is why patients are so pleased with their result. Tumescent liposuction is not only the safest method but gives the best cosmetic result.
Anesthesia
Liposuction is performed in our AAAHC-accredited outpatient surgery center. There are choices of types of anesthesia depending on the numbers and size of areas treated. These choices include local anesthesia with sedation, and twilight or general anesthesia administered by our board-certified M.D. anesthesiologists.
Recovery
Patients wear a compression garment to reduce swelling and bruising. Most experience minimal discomfort. Pain medication may be given, but most patients are comfortable with Tylenol® (acetaminophen).
A garment is worn for approximately four to six weeks but most patients return to work in a few days. Improvements are apparent in 1-3 weeks, but the full benefit may not be visible for a few months. Individual results vary somewhat, but most patients are thrilled with a more positive body image.
