Benefits of Eyelid Lifts (Blepharoplasty)
Blepharoplasty is a procedure which alleviates tired, droopy, eyelids in both men and women, which may be due to inherited problems or aging.
How an Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty) is done
In the upper blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), a fine incision is made in the natural crease of the upper lids. Loose skin and any bulging fat are removed and then the incision is carefully sutured.
For lower lids with no extra skin and bags, the fat causing the bulging can be removed from inside the lids without a visible external incision and no sutures (a transconjuctival blepharoplasty). A transconjuctival blepharoplasty is particularly good on younger patients who can return to work almost immediately minus the bags with no detectable signs of surgery.

If there is extra skin, a tiny incision will be made close to the lower lashes and a small amount of skin removed. The incisions blend into the surrounding skin, healing almost invisibly.
Blepharoplasty as performed by Dr. Zweig does not change the shape of your eyes or raise your eyebrows. The results produce a natural, rested look.

Anesthesia
Eyelid lifts (blepharoplasty) are performed in our AAAHC-accredited outpatient surgery center with a little sedation and a local anesthetic, but there are other options for anesthesia given by our board-certified physician anesthesiologist. Most patients (75-80%) choose to have a local anesthetic with sedation for this procedure and are quite happy.
Recovery
Recovery is almost painless. Any mild discomfort can be easily controlled with Tylenol® (acetaminophen) and the cool compresses the patient is instructed to use after surgery. Any swelling peaks on day 2 and quickly resolves.
Transconjuctival blepharoplasty patients can apply makeup in 24 hours. Sutures, if any, come out in 4-5 days. Contacts can be carefully inserted.

Other solutions for the eye area
Surgery, unfortunately, does not cure fine lines and wrinkles or crow's feet. Crinkled skin with fine lines is best helped by a skin care routine and either a chemical peel or laser resurfacing. Botox® eliminates frown lines between the eyebrows and crows feet. Sagging eyebrows are not raised except with a forehead/brow lift.
Dr. Zweig is a master expert in finding the most conservative and best solutions for problems in the eye area. His patients do not have a surprised, unnatural look.
In your consultation Dr. Zweig will discuss, in depth, your goals and concerns. Our patient coordinator/counselor is available to speak with you and in detail. If you wish, we can arrange for you to speak to a patient who has had blepharoplasty.
