Benefits of Facial Liposuction
Facial liposuction helps reduce fat pockets under the chin and excess fat along the jaw line and even the cheeks. These areas may not respond to diet and exercise has had no effect. In some patients, primarily younger ones, it can produce excellent results, but only if the skin has good elasticity, otherwise it may leave hanging skin. Taking too much fat under the chin can cause the neck bands to show with a hollow space between and produce an objectionable look called a “cobra neck.”

Dr. Zweig is conservative in his approach. Because Dr. Zweig is experienced in facial aging correction, he knows that fat absorbs as we age and that removing too much fat (or any, in some patients) may cause problems in the future. He will frequently employ facial liposuction along the jaw line and under the neck combined with face and neck lifts. This gives a smoother, more defined, facial improvement.

How a Facial Liposuction is Done
Facial liposuction removes unwanted fat cells using a tiny stainless steel tube called a cannula. The cannula is inserted through a tiny incision under the chin, and sometimes behind the ear lobes, which heals almost invisibly. Facial liposuction is done in our AAAHC-certified outpatient surgery center.

Anesthesia
Facial liposuction is performed in our AAAHC-accredited outpatient surgery center with a little sedation and a local anesthetic, but there are other options for anesthesia given by our board-certified physician anesthesiologist.

Recovery
You will wear a snug elastic dressing on the treated area continually for a few days and then only at night for a week or so. You should rest at home the first day and return to see Dr. Zweig the next day. Pain medications are rarely prescribed, as discomfort is minimal. Tylenol® (acetaminophen) may be taken if necessary. While bruising is possible, most patients return to work in two to four days and may exercise in about ten to fourteen days. Immediate improvement will be seen but due to swelling, final results may take four to six weeks.
