Benefits of Non-Surgical Lip Enhancements
Both the ridge of the upper lip and the fullness of both upper and lower lips may be enhanced. The ridge of the upper lip may not be well defined because of the aging process or heredity. As we age, some people's lips tend to turn inward. Many people also are born with a very small upper lip.
To produce or enhance the ridgeline on the upper lip either an injectable filler or a permanent type material such as Gore-Tex® may be used.
Injectable products are more desirable for fullness as they are softer, flexible, and do not feel artificial. Some newer products are more permanent than others.
It is not necessary to be sedated for any of these procedures. Either no anesthetic or a local anesthetic is used; therefore, they are not usually done in the operating room.
Dr. Zweig does not use fat transfers for lips as fat must be used in larger amounts initially, which makes the lips look too large for a time. Also, the fat is lumpy, may absorb unevenly, and is not permanent. Lip fat transfers will not last as long as fat transfers to other areas, such as the cheek.
The new Hyaluronic products provide an excellent result with little problem, and are more cost efficient than a fat transfer.
